A Season for Simple Beauty 

As the holidays settle in, I’m drawn to the small things that make a home feel intentional—quiet gestures of beauty that don't require excess or effort. This year again, I’m utilizing a simple thrift store find with a few of my favorite floral vases–  discoveries have been wonderfully effortless: natural, beautiful objects gathered in a vase.

The Spark of Inspiration 

The idea began a few years ago with a conversation I overheard—two women discussing holiday decorating. One, a lady in her forties with several obligations, shared her approach to holiday decorating with a smile:
 “I place some beautiful red ornaments in a pretty dish—yes, that’s my decorating.”

Her simplicity struck me. No pressure. No elaborate displays. Just a thoughtful placement that added joy.

Inspired, that year I stopped at a local thrift shop and found a handful of vintage red ornaments. I placed them in one of my favorite glass vases and set it on the countertop. Instantly, the room felt brighter—elegant, festive, and wonderfully minimal.  I’ve continued the tradition ever since, placing those same red ornaments in a vase each holiday season. It’s an especially lovely touch during the years we’re traveling and won’t be home for Christmas.

Clementines and Blueberries for the New Year

As the new year approaches, consider taking out your flower vases and placing clementines and blueberries in them. Whether you're hosting a book club, bringing an appetizer to a gathering, or welcoming guests into your home, this is an easy, elegant way to let nature shine.

Don’t limit this idea to the holidays. Consider grapes in a vase—clean, healthy, and graceful. I brought this to a birthday party a few weeks ago.  Guests commented on how beautiful and healthy!  It appears so elegant, this edible art, and for me, it is so effortless to put together.
